Presenting complaint

• Marco was transferred from his local hospital after his abdominal surgery was complicated by retroperitoneal abscess
• He presented with a well-healed midline abdominal surgical scar and diffuse tenderness, which was most prominent on the left side
• He experienced abdominal pain and a fever of 38.6˚C
